About Agnes Banks
Agnes Banks is a suburb located in the Hawkesbury City region, in New South Wales. Natural woodlands make up the higher landscape of this suburb, Agnes Banks is a rural outpost of the City of Penrith and City of Hawkesbury districts which has kept its unique agricultural value and rural lifestyle. The suburb has a wide variety of properties, from high-end luxurious abodes to affordable housing.
The town here was once known as 'Little Richmond'. In 1804 Andrew Thompson was given a grant which he named Agnes Bank after his mother. The first inhabitants were former convicts who had been granted land by Governor Macquarie’s secretary administrator. They were joined in the early 1840s by free settlers and more convicts who were released from nearby Longbottom Prison Farm. The area’s first a post office was established in 1891. In 1908, the first church opened in Agnes Banks.
